clever girls

First of all, welcome aboard to one of the great präteritum experts in this part of the world, Neilich. Willkommen!

The song I've been listening to non-stop lately is 'Clever girls like clever boys much more than clever boys like clever girls' by a Swedish guy called Pelle Carlberg (no Carlsberg). That Swedes know how to make good pop songs is not new, so I won't start talking about marrying a Swede and move to a wooden cabin near Kiruna. I hope you agree that the song title is a perfect statement. Which makes me think that maybe those 'clever' boys who don't like clever girls that much, are not really that 'clever'.

When I was a teenager I always fell for boys who were similar and were into the same stuff as me only to discover that they fancied someone completely different. But I think opposites attract each other. How can you explain then that I like someone who is so quiet that you could imagine he's mute? And talking about being mute.

In my current school there is a girl who's 8 and doesn't speak. She's red-haired and has a nice face. I don't know what happened to her that she stopped talking but I find her fascinating. And it makes me think of a Black Box Recorder song called 'Child Psychology'. "I stopped talking when I was six years old. I didn't want anything more to do with the outside world. I was happy being quiet. But, of course, they wouldn't leave me alone". I feel intrigued about these lyrics, they are obscure in a not very common way. It follows: "Life is unfair, kill yourself or get over it". For that sentence I think they were banned on MTV and radio stations. The cover of the album, England Made Me is so good, I don't know why.

What might be the reason why a perfectly normal girl decides to shut her mouth forever?
